Gayle blitz takes Karachi Kings to PSL 2017 play offs

DUBAI: Chris Gayle struck form as Karachi Kings won the match against Islamabad United by six wickets on Sunday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, ensuring their place
in the playoffs of Pakistan Super League 2017.

Chris Gayle scored quick-fire 44 runs off 17 balls —striking back-to-back three sixes — but soon got out to Saeed Ajmal.

However, Babar Azam continued the flow of runs from the other end until he was bowled by Shadab Khan with a well-disguised googly.

Shadab picked two-in-two which brought hopes alive for United but responsible batting by Kieron Pollard (20) and Ravi Bopara (11) sealed the deal for Kings.

Saeed Ajmal also picked up one wicket but failed to make much impact on the match.

Earlier during the United’s innings, opener Dwayne Smith scored 49 runs but lacked support from the other end as the team failed to get momentum to play aggressively.

Brad Haddin with 20 and Ben Duckett with 16 were the other top scorers.

For Kings, Sohail Khan, Muhammad Amir and Usman Khan picked up two wickets each.

The match was reduced to 15 overs a side due to rain.

The win has ensured a place for Karachi Kings in the playoffs while Lahore Qalandars have been eliminated from PSL 2.

Chris Gayle was awarded the man of the match award for his match-winning innings.

The first playoff would be played between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators on Tuesday.

England cricketer shares experience of Pakistan visit

England cricketer Chris Jordan, who was a key member of Peshawar Zalmi’s winning squad, termed his experience of playing the final of Pakistan Super League in Lahore a “pretty surreal and unreal.” Jordan played his part in a remarkable night in Lahore as Peshawar Zalmi won the second edition of the Pakistan Super League in front of a packed house. In an interview with ecb.co.uk, the Sussex and England man reflected on a whirlwind few days in Pakistan, and his decision to play a match many overseas players turned down. “It was pretty surreal! Obviously from making the decision to go, we were well briefed and everything was well documented about how everything was going to run from the time we left on the plane from Dubai to the time we got back.” said Jordan. “As soon as we landed in Lahore, we were met by military guys, escorted straight onto a bus and had a 10-minute drive to the hotel with a full escort. The road was cordoned off and no-one was on the streets – it was a bit unreal!” ...
